SINCRO Project

Design of a generator that synchronizes inductors and configures them in magnetic flux cancellation or boosting mode for the optimization and improvement of induction heating processes

Project description

The technical objective of the project is to obtain a generator capable of synchronizing the current of two or more inductors heating the same part, so that they do not interfere with each other due to the magnetic coupling produced by their proximity and by the magnetic core effect that the part to be heated has on the process. This solution will be evaluated experimentally by means of an experimental demonstrator consisting of a dual generator with its respective heating stations and a test bench in which quenching operations can be carried out at frequencies of 10 to 15 kHz.

The general technical objectives to be achieved during the course of the project are as follows:

  • Obtaining a model that reflects the behavior of coupled inductors in induction heating.
  • Determination of power topology and appropriate control strategies for inductor synchronization.
  • Determination of the operating restrictions in the different operating modes: intensification and flow cancellation.

Project summary

The scope of the project has focused on the development of the following technologies:

  • Experimental demonstrator to validate the developed technology, consisting of:
    • Dual 10 kW generator which in turn incorporates:
      • Inverters with common DC bus.
      • Control board with the necessary programming to manage the synchronization of the current phases.
      • User interface with the necessary parameters for synchronization.
  • Test bench with different inductors to test different types of applications susceptible to use this technology capable of handling 100 kW per output.
    • Heating stations with a working range between 10 and 20 kHz and quality factors of 7 to 12.
