CORE-LESS project

Design and development of inductors and heating stations, for the realization of stress relief thermal treatments without the use of impeders and with fine adjustment of the temperature differential between different points of the treated pipe

Project description

The technical objective of the project is to develop an induction system capable of performing heat treatments of stress-relief in large diameter tubes, having a fine adjustment of the temperature differential between the target temperature and the different measurement points, without the use of impeders or short circuit coils, as well as additionally extending the homogenization times to increase the final mechanical properties of the materials to be treated. The increase of the homogenization times is one of the growing demands that the market is demanding. To make possible this increase without the use of impeders and maintaining the temperature differences, especially between the end of the tube and the target temperature, is the great challenge that the company is facing by undertaking the present development.

The improvement in the performance of the present development compared to the current equipment will meet the growing demands in productivity, quality and performance within the sector, the significant improvement in productivity leads to a significant reduction in costs per volume treated compared to current equipment.

The general technical objectives of the project are:

  • Conception, design and development of inductors that make it possible to perform stress relief heat treatments without the use of impeders and with a fine adjustment of the temperature difference with the target temperature.
  • Conception, design and development of heating stations that make it possible to perform stress relief heat treatments without the use of impeders and with a fine adjustment of the temperature difference with the target temperature.
  • Conception and design of the mechanical structure that makes it possible to perform stress relief heat treatments without the use of impeders and with a fine adjustment of the temperature difference with the target temperature.
  • Conception, design and development of the control that makes it possible to perform the target treatment.
